As more governments begin investing in the smart cities movement, companies in the business-to-government (B2G) marketplace have the chance to take advantage. This article explains 10 smart city projects that were recently a) awarded to a vendor, or b) recently put out to bid, or c) included in an agency’s future spending plan.
Qualcomm sponsored a series of workshops in Texas, where we developed 18 specific project ideas other regions can study for ideas. In addition, the process revealed six best practices: 1) Build a national/regional coalition; 2) Build side-by-side with the communities; 3) Build back better; 4) Build smart from the start; 5) Take a phased approach; and 6) Move from conversation mode to action mode. SSPCR 2019 explores the impact of academic research, the scaling-up and replicability opportunities of pilot projects, and the added value of local bottom-up initiatives, in relation to complex challenges posed by the smart city/region approach.
