Recognizing that smart cities will take advantage of communication and sensor capabilities sewn into the cities’ infrastructures, this white paper argues that new solutions are absolutely necessary not only to improve the quality of daily-life with innovative efficient protocols but also in terms of privacy. As it states: "Privacy because the networks, especially those using wireless medium and energy efficient communication protocols, will be exposed to a broad range of threats." This paper provides a deep dive into these issues that both city leaders and residents should be aware of.
