Mayors and advocates for improving city healthcare services to residents will be interested in learning about digital technology developed by a UK consortium that is allowing patients with chronic illnesses to consult with hospital clinicians direct from their own living rooms or nursing homes. It's estimated it could save the National Health Service millions of pounds a year, but it also avoids patient travel and removes the need for healthcare professionals to be present for routine hospital appointments. The technology also allows delivery of educational material relevant to the patient’s condition direct to their television.
