International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)

Founded in 1906, the International Electrotechnical Commission is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization that prepares and publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies, known collectively as “electrotechnology.” Notably, it sets standards for the modern smart grids. Its range of standards covers power generation, transmission and distribution to home appliances and office equipment, semiconductors, fiber optics, batteries, solar energy, nanotechnology and marine energy. IEC is based in Geneva, Switzerland.
