The popular smart city rankings conducted annually since 2011 by Council Advisor Boyd Cohen and published by Fast Company have been enhanced this year with expanded indicators, a new advisory panel, a new collaborator and an exciting invitation for 100 cities around the world to see how they rank.
The rankings are an effort to help facilitate smart cities benchmarking and dialog among cities, urban innovators and citizens regarding progress on the smart cities journey. And Cohen recently announced some enhancements, including an Advisory Board that includes Rick Robinson, Executive Smart Cities Architect for IBM; Pilar Conesa, Director of the Barcelona Smart City Expo, and Jesse Berst, Chairman of the Smart Cities Council. Additionally, the Barcelona-based business school ESADE has formally joined the Smart Cities Index collaboration, led by Dr. Esteve Almirall.
As a result of their involvement, Cohen said the survey that determines city rankings has been revised to 62 indicators; of those 16 directly overlap with the new ISO sustainable cities standard.
The Index has also been expanded this year to include 25 countries from all four regions of the world, selected on the basis of their 2014 Innovation Cities Index Score.
