What an award-winning smart highway teaches us about smart cities

You will enjoy the video below and this post from ArchDaily, the world's most visited architecture site. They describe a "smart highway" project that won a prestigious design award.

I walked away with two reminders. First, we already have plenty of technology and plenty of data with which to create astonishing improvements to our cities. What's in short supply is the knock-you-down creativity shown here.

Second, those of us in the smart cities sector need to flip our thinking. We need to think less about how technology can help us adapt to the environment. And more about how the environment can adapt to us -- can sense us, recognize us, and tailor itself to our immediate needs. -- Jesse Berst
