Vice President Biden with UST Global CEO Sajan PillaiVP Biden lauds UST Global's STEM efforts: We told you recently about the Step IT Up America program launched by Council Associate Partner UST Global. We weren't the only ones impressed by it.  Vice President Joe Biden recently visited the Detroit center of UST Global’s nationwide Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative that aims to educate and hire 5,000 minority women across the country by 2020. Biden congratulated Sajan Pillai, CEO of UST Global, on the ingenuity of Step IT Up America and said, “The President is determined as I am to have the best training workshops. We can't train and pray, we have to train and place.” Accompanying the Vice President was Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.

Calvert County Schools opt for SunGard eFinance: The school district joins nine others in Maryland that are using SunGard Public Sector's eFinance payroll system. The South Maryland News reported that school officials expect the new software solution to be more effective and less expensive than the system it will replace. The report said district IT personnel believe implementation of eFinance will save the school system approximately $365,948 over the next five years and an additional $140,000 per fiscal year. SunGard Public Sector, a Council Associate Partner, is a leading provider of software and services for local governments, public safety and justice agencies and nonprofits.

Press highlights Camgian's cutting-edge technologies: A feature on Camgian Microsystems and its CEO Gary Butler in The Clarion-Ledger describes the Starkville, Mississippi company as "one of the state's most notable tech firms." It also highlighted Camgian's upcoming launch of Egburt, a secure, cloud-based service that combines localized, real-time analytics with high-level information processing. Camgian, a Council Associate Partner,  will launch Egburt at the Internet of Things Global Summit in Washington, D.C., Oct. 27-28. The article also quoted Tony Jeff, CEO of Innovate Mississippi, a nonprofit promoting the growth of Mississippi businesses that utilize technology and innovation. “Camgian is doing cutting-edge things in the fields where they’re working,” Jeff said. “The technologies they’ve developed are really important.”
