Bechtel national security sites win sustainability awards
Four national security sites that Council Lead Partner Bechtel manages and operates with industry and university teammates earned a total of 12 U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration Sustainability Awards for 2014. These awards acknowledge superior performance in sustainability by improving the management of water, energy, vehicle fleet, pollution, waste and greenhouse gases. The sites are the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Pantex Plant in Texas and the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee. “These advances and innovations in sustainability help ensure the long-term success of the projects, which are critical to the surrounding communities, the nation, and the environment,” said Craig Albert, president of Bechtel’s government services business.

Chilean government lauds Enel's energy efficiency
Italy-based Enel's San Isidro plant is the first in Chile to obtain an energy efficiency certification, an acknowledgement that underscores the utility's commitment to efficiency and environmental sustainability. The certificate is given by the Chilean Energy Ministry to businesses that distinguish themselves for energy efficiency in their production processes. Active in Chile, over the last few months, Enel Green Power has completed and grid-connected the Taltal wind farm, its largest in the country, has started building both the Lalackama II PV solar facility and the Talinay Poniente wind farm. Additionally, it will build the country’s first marine energy research centre. Enel is a Council Lead Partner.

Daimler wins prestigious environmental award
Daimler's NANOSLIDE® technology, which is an innovation highlight of the Mercedes-Benz S 500 plug-in hybrid, has received the European Commission's European Environmental Award. Established in 1987, the awards go to eco-innovation companies that successfully combine innovation, competitiveness and outstanding environmental performance. NANOSLIDE is an innovative technology to reduce fuel consumption of combustion engines. This corresponds to reduction in CO2 emissions. Mercedes-Benz is a Council Lead Partner.

Schneider Electric honored in Platts Global Energy Awards
Council Associate Partner Schneider Electric was recognized for its efforts to conserve and manage energy consumption at more than 300 company facilities around the world. The company was honored with a Stewardship Award at the 2014 Platts Global Energy Awards. “Energy efficiency is in our DNA, so we are especially proud to be recognized for the extensive efficiency programs we’ve implemented in our own facilities,” said Chris Hummel, Chief Marketing Officer at Schneider.
