Pacific Northwest National Laboratory

The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory aims to use science and technology to inspire and enable the world to live prosperously. It seeks to transform the world through courageous discovery and innovation. The Smart Grid Demonstration Project is working to validate new smart grid technologies and business model, provide two-way communication between distributed generation, storage, and demand assets and the existing grid infrastructure, quantify smart grid costs and benefits, advance standards for interoperability and cyber security approaches. The five year project spans five Pacific Northwest states, involves 11 utilities, the Bonneville Power Administration, and multiple technology participants including participation from the University of Washington and Washington State University, with outreach to other academic centers involving  60,000 metered customers,  and will engage, using smart grid technologies, system electricity assets exceeding 112 megawatts.
